Cabbage & Pork Porridge by Pressure Cooker 快鍋的高麗菜排骨粥

To tell the truth, I was perplexed with such a huge pressure cooker that my husband’s parents gave us.

我先生的父母給我們這個太大的快鍋。我想做快鍋的菜很難。

But these days I love it! I tried “Cabbage & Pork Porridge” with an Internet recipe written in Chinese.

現在我覺得這種菜不一定很難。我看中文食譜，做「高麗菜排骨粥」「高麗菜排骨粥」。

Despite no mushrooms, it looks OK, doesn’t it?
(Oh, actually now I should be studying rather than writing this diary. Today we have an exam!)

我們沒有香菇，可是不醋，對不對？
（噢！我現在必要學中文，不會寫這個日記，因為我們今天有考試！）

台灣結婚泰迪小熊也是藝人，不，藝熊。 (請看我的這個日記。）

But I will make wedding clothes for Dongdong & Coco.

For my translation job, I bought a CANON printer, which was the cheapest in the store (NT$1,500). But an ink cartridge cost NT$700! I have to buy a lot when going back to Japan. (BTW, I have got no job offer since I got the printer…. Give me a job.)

我要做冬冬﹠Coco用結婚衣服。

我做翻譯工作，所以要印表機。我們買了最便宜的，Canon，1,500塊。可是一個噴墨，700塊！我回日本，會買很多噴墨。（可是我現在沒有翻譯工作。請給我工作）

Banana Noodles Help Farmers? 香蕉麵（不是香蕉麵包！）

These days bananas are tremendously cheap due to overproduction. NT$2 for 100g. NT$12 for 6 small bananas (pictured)! The price is now 1/5 or 1/10 of last year’s.

最近香蕉太便宜，因為今年盛產。2元/100克。照片的小6個香蕉，12元！今年價錢是1，2折。

Governmental promotion for eating bananas. According to Shin-chan, it says: Banana; We understand each other; We cherish each other; ALL EATERS EXPLODE THIER FEELING. … Laughter. Actually he does not know some of Taiwanese language (which is different form Chinese), but he thinks it is just a populist propaganda, which always does not make sense:)

政府要救台灣香蕉。「香蕉相知　相惜 jia 大家搏感情」很奇妙：）有的台灣話，小信不懂。可是，他覺得這種言辭就是政府的面向大眾扇動。

News says: Banana noodles (pictured) and banana mantou (steamed bun) were created & tasted good. Montou could be OK, but banana noodles…???

新聞說人人開發「香蕉麵」和「香蕉饅頭」。饅頭可以，可是香蕉麵… ? 我想不想吃嗎？

School kids are (forced to?) making banana mantou.

小學生喜歡（？）製作香蕉饅頭。

Oh, Taiwanese oranges are also suffering from excessive production. They are delicious despite the looks! The sale price was NT$1 for each… Thanks, farmers.

今年柳橙也有生產過剩的問題。這水果不好看，可是很好吃。噢，1個柳橙，1塊…. 多謝，蕉農和柳橙農。

Enjoy Typical Beef Noodle 平凡的牛肉麵，可是很好吃！

2006 Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival is on now. The purpose is to promote Taipei City as a capital and hometown of the beef noodles world. The beef noodles are noodles with beef stock soup. Very common in Taipei City like Japanese ra-men. The price is about NT$100-150.

「2006臺北國際牛肉麵節」到來。在台北，牛肉麵是常見的麵。我想台北的牛肉麵是日本的拉麵。一碗牛肉麵，自100塊至150塊。

We chose “Lao Zhang Beef Noodle Shop” for its 30-year history…. Very local….

這是我們今天的牛肉麵。「老張牛肉麵」說他有三十多年歴史。

Shin-chan chose “Beef Noodle, M-size,” NT$100.

小信的「牛肉麵（中）」，100塊。

Mine is “Beef SOUP noodle, S-size,” NT$50. In short, beef noodles without meat:)

我的「牛肉湯麵（小）」，50塊。這菜有一個字「湯」，可是（所以？）沒有牛肉。

Shin-chan, who hates to eat vegetables in general, ordered this pickled cucumber, Xiao Huang Gua. Unexpectedly delicious:)

不喜歡吃菜的小信買「小黄瓜」。很好吃。

Zhong Sheng (Chiang Kai-shek) Memorial Hall.

中正記念堂。

The reason we are here is not to see the Memorial Hall, but to visit “Wedding Photo Street.” There seems to be 20 studios or so.

我們來了這區，因為找婚紗攝影館，不看記念堂。這婚紗街有十數家以上之婚紗名店。

This kind of wedding photo album is quite weird to me. But this is a Taiwanese reality….

我想這種婚紗攝影很奇怪。

他們是不是藝人？。

We got estimates from 4 shops. Shin-chan chose the most expensive one as usual. NT$14,500…. (Oh, the price is NT$41,500. 2006, Oct. 31)

我們說４家婚紗店。小信喜歡最貴的。常常。…41,500元。

Salsa Dancing in Pairs 雙人莎莎舞教室

We finished basic salsa steps for singles last week.

單人教室上星期修業了。

The class starts one hour later than before; so we had time to eat.

我們吃晚飯。

Fried Rice Noodle (NT$20) for me, Braised Pork Rice, small (NT$20) for Shin-chan.

我吃炒米粉，20塊。小信吃魯肉飯，20塊。

He also ordered Duck Blood Jelly Soup (NT$35) as usual… Well, I ordered Braised Pork Rice, Large (NT$30), too. Ate too much to dance.

他再買鵝鵝血湯（35塊）…。我也追加大的魯肉飯（30塊）：０我們吃了，吃得太多。

This week we started to attend a new course, dancing in pairs! We wish we will be able to perform at our coming wedding banquet.

雙人教室今天開始！我們的目標，會跳莎莎婚禮舞。

After dancing. I have another stomach for dessert:) Very big cream puff.

我跳莎莎舞了，跳得很累。我有另一個胃，蛋糕用胃：）很大的泡芙。

Noisy Construction 噪音公害工地

Continuous roaring noise woke up us at 7.00 in the morning. New apartments are under construction near our house. Today’s noise is just dreadful.

我早上七點起床，也我先生七點半起床。太太大噪音，因為他們建築新公寓大樓。

Next apartment from our bed room. 10-year-old or so. The same as ours.

對面的公寓大樓。十多歲。我們家一樣。

Some new ones are just over there. Looks nice. The noisy ones will be like those? The view is changing.

那邊的公寓大樓是新的。很好看。是那噪音公害工地未來的像嗎？風景經常不一樣。

From our balcony. Taiwanese buildings are smoke-covered in general. This is because their Clean Act Law is not that strict, I think.

從晒台的風景。台灣的大樓煙燻。大鑰台灣的廢氣規制法不夠。

Yanzhen’s Dream and Son 延珍的理想跟兒子

We wanted to try real Chinese tea, but eventually we sat down in an ordinary cafe:( Anyway this pearl tapioca milk tea was good.

我們想喝真的中國茶，可是到了平凡的咖啡館。這杯珍珠奶茶（熱）很好喝：）

Housewife talk with a Korean friend Jin Yan Zhen. I found she has her own goals and dreams. I have been down for a while, but I decided to stand up!

家庭主婦的談話。她有她自己的理想。我想有我的理想。

She and her husband will teach us how to play billiard someday. She is such a slim woman; nevertheless, she has a son. His smile is very cute.

她的先生跟她喜歡打撞球。他們打的很好，教我們。金延珍很瘦，可是有一個男孩！她兒子好可愛〜。

She told the founder of Lotte, one of the biggest confectionary companies in Japan, is actually Korean. I was so surprised!

Lotte 是有名日本公司。她說，Lotte的經理是韓國人！艾呀〜，我不知道了。

Another Japanese friend Heyan (aka. Kazuhiko) also knows it. Does everybody knows it?

齊木和彥，日本朋友也知道。大家知道嗎？

Pickled Lotus without “Eagle Nail” 無鷹爪醋拌蓮藕

I tried to cook pickled lotus, one of Japanese dishes, I think.

我做日本菜醋拌蓮藕。

We didn’t have red pepper, so I used spicy “Dou Ban Jiang.” Similar, isn’t it? (Mine just lacks sliced pepper in the top photo.) Although this dish was not what I expected, Shin-chan liked it a lot:)

我沒有“鷹爪“，用豆板醬。很像嗎？我不喜歡這菜，可是小信說很好吃。…謝謝。

“Eagle nail” is another name for red pepper in Japanese.

日本菜鷹爪是辣子。中文一樣嗎？

Cooking Lotus with Pressure Cooker 快鍋的蓮藕雞肉粥

Wow! Is Shin-chan cooking?

小信做飯嗎！？

Oh, just peeling a skin of… a lotus smuggled from Shanghai!

・・・不，他只去皮洗淨走私的上海蓮藕。

Rice porridge with chicken and lotus. We used the pressure cooker for the first time. Chicken became very tender!

I also stir-fried some lotus: Shin-chan preferred spicy “Dou Ban Jiang” taste (right) and I sweet buttery one (left).

快鍋的蓮藕雞肉粥！我們初次用快鍋。雞肉很軟。違大的快鍋。

另一菜是・・・炒蓮藕。小信喜歡吃右邊豆板醬味道，我喜歡左邊奶油味道。

“Buddha Jump Over the Wall” Soup. Shin-chan found the recipe and smily showed it to me. Yeah, we ate it before, but I didn’t jump.

佛跳牆的食譜、小信找、給我看看。?…我吃了，可是沒有跳。
